Sergey Petrossov is barely out of his twenties, but he is making a huge impact on the aviation industry as an entrepreneur. In 2009 after his first flight on a private jet offered by the owner of the actual company, he realized he loved the idea of being able to book a plane but did not like the process it took to actually rent the jet. He was surprised at how outdated the reservation system was, given all of the technology that was available. And due to the time-consuming methods and inconvenience for many, some opted to not utilize the services at all and many jets ended up not being used. From that experience came his Fort Lauderdale, Florida based company, JetSmarter. With this service, individuals or groups can book trips on private jets using its mobile app.
Florida raised Sergey Petrossov attended the University of Florida where he starting working with computer science and then decided technology was the field he wanted to be a part of. When it came to merging technology with his new venture, it seemed to be the perfect combination. From 2009 to 2012 he began the research needed, then started the formal process of building the company in 2012. This process included working with a technical team building the app and networking with others in the industry. JetSmarter went public in 2013.
Rapper and businessman Jay-Z has invested in the company as well as the Saudi Royal Family. Today, the company is valued at $1.5 billion. Approximately 14,000 members pay approximately $15,000 annually and they are able to use the jets individually or share flights with other members. As more people learn about JetSmarter and its services, and commercial flying becomes more inconvenient for many, Sergey Petrossov hopes to change the industry of private jets.
