How Rebel Wilson Keeps It Real

If you are a fan of Pitch Perfect and/or the super-confident Barden Bellas a cappella group, then you wouldn’t need any backdrop to know who Rebel Wilson is.

As the “Fat Amy” of the popular franchise, Wilson stole hearts and crushed them with her memorable take on the student-turned-singer who absolutely nailed her in-movie performances whenever she needed to. That too while sporting a kickass sense of humor.

If you do remember the franchise that well, you would no doubt also still be in awe of how Fat Amy pulled off her stunts in Pitch Perfect 2. But if you had been thinking that it was a body double all along in real life – then you would really need to think twice.

The Isn’t It Romantic star actually performed all of her aerial stunts by herself, even when she had a fear of heights to begin with.

Sounds interesting? We thought so too.

According to Rebel Wilson, the Cirque de Soleil style stunt that she does at the beginning of the movie, in which she hangs upside down from the ceiling while performing with the Barden Bellas, was all her performance.

“I stretched every day to be able to do that,” Wilson told the LA Times.

Doing so was difficult, but Rebel Wilson clearly achieved that feat through her tenacity at the end.

The stunt was performed exactly 27 feet above the ground, and Rebel Wilson mentioned that she also had a fear of heights at the time – which made it even more difficult for her. Nonetheless, she persevered and also asked the production team to believe in her for the stunt… but no more than three times. “I’m afraid of heights, so I said I’d only do it three times.” The Bridesmaids star said at the time. “I told them [the production crew], ‘I’ll do it three times. I’ll crush it, so turn all your cameras on.’ And I nailed it.”

Watch that scene closely again with these words ringing in your ears, and you can clearly see the work that Rebel Wilson put in that one singular scene that set the whole mood for the movie.

Since the scene was to show the troubles the Barden Bellas are going through, Wilson hanging upside down in that comical fashion demonstrated just how far those troubles went for the girls.

It is due to that dedication to her work that Rebel Wilson has been able to carve a niche for herself in the industry while also garnering a massive fan following. The Aussie star continues to follow that path even in her upcoming movie Cats, which is all set to release on December 20, 2019.
