Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum is the Chair of orthopedics at Bronxcare Health System in the Bronx region of NYC. He specializes in joint and ligament surgeries on the knee, shoulder, and hip. Additionally, he has lectured and contributed to many publishing regarding joint replacement and technologies to improve joint and ligament operations.
As a subspecialty, a specialty within a specialty, Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum also promotes himself as a surgeon who works on cracked, broken or splintered knees. He also performs surgeries for bad joints, though he hardly comes across such cases.
Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum also serves in various health organizations including membership to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He also serves as the Chief Medical Officer at DTC Healthcom and the Chief Advisory Officer serving the Swiftpath Program.
In an interview with ideamensch.com, Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum shares some of his perspectives in his career path including how the idea of his company came to being.
Dr. Kirschenbaum explains that the idea of Bronxcare popped up when he created the BoneHone website. It was part of Medscape due to ownership by Medscape Orthopedics. He puts his ideas into practical shape through in-depth research of the best methods of bringing an idea to life. Later, he creates a distribution model. He also enjoys the company of people who believe in him and his course.
One industrial trend that excites him is the rendering of value-based care. He believes consumer-based outcomes and proper cost analysis are key to offer improved healthcare.
One thing that he believes has propelled him as an entrepreneur is close relationships with other surgeons and practitioners in his department every week and other meetings with senior management staffs. Although he never regrets his former years in his career, he says he could have discovered early enough that there’s someone with an idea like his, and running a better version of the business than him.
