With former Recording Academy president Neil Portnow’s controversial statement telling female artists to “step up”, Desiree Perez along with other powerful women in the music industry challenged the Recording Academy. They challenged them to their narrow-minded perspective and work towards being more inclusive of female artists rather than making rash, dismissive remarks. The Academy later worked to make things a bit more diverse thanks to the efforts of Desiree Perez and others.

For almost 20 years in the music business, Desiree Perez proved herself to be a professional with negotiation. She was able to get the Formation Stadium secured for Beyoncé and she also helped Rihanna ink her deal with Samsung.
